Head south to enjoy spectacular views across to the Tamar Valley and its namesake river that marks the border between Cornwall and Devon. Head north to get a bird’s eye view of the Dartmoor National Park as you take off from the edge of this ruggedly beautiful and world famous moorland. Or if you choose, head westward to enjoy floating over the historic capital of Cornwall, spying out centuries old churches and castles as well as still enjoying the beauty of the ancient landscape. Or maybe, just maybe take the time to enjoy all three ballooning adventures!
THINGS TO DO IN PRINCETOWN
Princetown is Dartmoor’s highest town and is flanked by expansive, open moorland that cloaks tales of mystery, intrigue and folklore. Start unravelling these mysteries with a visit to the town’s infamous prison and the Dartmoor Prison Museum.
As you’ll be feeling invigorated and refreshed from your hot air balloon ride, don the hiking boots and traverse the Princetown Audio Walk, a 6 mile circular walk on which you encounter waterfalls, an aqueduct, Bronze Age settlements amongst others. Princetown also offers good food and accommodation, which means a visit here can easily turn into a relaxing getaway that you’ll not soon forget.

Your voucher will provide you with a choice of multiple launch sites from surrounding regions (Devon, Dorset or Cornwall) from which to get you aloft and if you either live in or are visiting Princetown, as a base it offers three awesome ballooning launch sites all within approximately 30-40 mins drive away. Choose from either the small Cornish hamlet of Hatt, the edge of the Dartmoor National Park near Okehampton or from just outside the Cornish town of Launceston.
Your unforgettable balloon ride will start with a full safety briefing, after which you you can help the team with the the inflating of the balloon if you wish – or kick back, soak up the atmosphere and let others do the hard work. But when it’s time, there is no escaping the collective excitement as the burners fire up and the balloon starts to prepare itself for taking you up, up and away on a ballooning adventure over Devon!
The Flight
DURING YOUR PRINCETOWN BALLOON RIDE
As you drift gently over either the Devon or Cornwall countryside depending on where you decide to launch from, there will be ample opportunity to take photographs from this unique vantage point. During your flight you are free to discuss how the balloon works with the pilot, who will also be pointing out the many points of interest that drift below you or rest gently on the horizon.
No two flights are the same, and as such any number of towns, villages and important landmarks could come into view – all of which create talking points for years to come.
Landing
YOUR PRINCETOWN BALLOON LANDING
After an unforgettable hour ballooning your pilot will begin your descent towards a gentle landing. Once back on the ground, and should you wish, you can help in packing away the envelope (that’s the official name for the fabric canopy).
With the balloon all packed away, you will be transferred back to your launch site where you can sip on the fine stuff and raise a toast to an unforgettable adventure hot air ballooning over Devon.
