BALLOON FLIGHT INFORMATION
Your Berkhamsted balloon flight launches from the quaintly named Cow Roast hamlet less than 3 miles out of the main town and boasts stunning views of the famous Chiltern Hills which form a chalk escarpment across several counties including Hertfordshire. Naturally, as Berkhamsted is the hometown of Edward the Black Prince (of 14th century fame) you will also most likely be able to spy the ruins of his Norman castle with its surrounding moats which still exist today.
As you float ever upward, and drift above the landscape below you will be able to get a birds’ eye view of this historic market town that sits close to the western border of Hertfordshire and is surrounded by countryside classified as being of outstanding natural beauty. You might want to explore Berkhamsted after your balloon flight, as it is a favourite with tourists and has one of the oldest jettied timber framed buildings (circa. 13th century) in the UK.
THINGS TO DO IN BERKHAMSTED
From national trust properties, to canals, reservoirs, stunningly beautiful countryside, monuments and more there is much to ooh and ahh over as you float up into the Berkhamsted skies in your hot air balloon ride. Keep an eye out for the gorgeous Ashridge Estate which has ancient trees, rolling chalk downlands and lush meadows. In its midst you should also be able to see the Bridgewater Monument a spire like memorial to the Duke of Bridgewater in 1832.
Depending on the winds and the fates on your balloon ride day you might also find yourself drifting over another nearby market town, Chesham which sits surrounded by farmland and has the attractive Chesham Moor which because it is 17 acres of common land alongside the River Chess should be quite easy to spot from your perch in the sky.

The main departure point is Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club. There are also other sites nearby in Hertfordshire that can be used to get you aloft!
You can leave your car at the launch site as this is where your ballooning experience will finish.
Your unforgettable balloon ride will start with a full safety briefing, after which you you can help the team with the the inflating of the balloon if you wish – or kick back, soak up the atmosphere and let others do the hard work. But when it’s time, there is no escaping the collective excitement as the burners fire up and the balloon starts to prepare itself for taking you up, up and away on a ballooning adventure over Hertfordshire!
The Flight
DURING YOUR BERKHAMSTED BALLOON RIDE
As you drift gently over the Hertfordshire countryside near Berkhamsted, there will be ample opportunity to take photographs from this unique vantage point. During your flight you are free to discuss how the balloon works with the pilot, who will also be pointing out the many points of interest that drift below you or rest gently on the horizon.

Landing
YOUR BERKHAMSTED BALLOON LANDING
After an unforgettable hour ballooning your pilot will begin your descent towards a gentle landing. Once back on the ground, and should you wish, you can help in packing away the envelope (that’s the official name for the fabric canopy).
With the balloon all packed away, you will be transferred back to your launch site where you can sip on the fine stuff and raise a toast to an unforgettable adventure hot air ballooning over Hertfordshire.
