BALLOON FLIGHT INFORMATION
A St Albans hot air balloon ride boasts gorgeous medieval views accentuated by idyllic countryside vistas. This is due to the prolific middle-ages era architecture still in existence in this quaint South Hertfordshire town-come-city, but that’s not all, your views will also be complemented by its ancient Roman origins and of course the historic St Albans Cathedral that initially dominates the skyline of the city as you find yourself floating ever upward.
Naturally, the area does have its modern-day buildings but despite the Roman conquerors being routed during the revolt of Boudicca almost 2000 years ago, the heritage of what was once one of the largest Roman settlements is still clearly visible when you visit and is especially appreciable when viewed from above. From Roman times to now, the area has been the site of many impressive works of architecture throughout the centuries until the end result is a veritable smorgasbord of history when viewed from the 2,500ft vantage point your balloon flight will provide you with.
Echoes of the ancient past can be evidenced by the Roman walls, gates & other ruins found at the Roman Theatre of Verulamium built around 140AD that can be spotted on a fine day from your 2,500ft perch (depending on which way the wind decides to take you). The gorgeous 100-acre Verulamium park is also a delight to behold, with its calm-giving green spaces and lake. There is something even more peaceful and tranquil about the space when looking down, serenely separated from the everyday hustle and bustle of city life.
At the same time, even if the weather fates take your ballooning adventure on a different path, there is still much to see and admire as you float your way across St Albans from the 12th century Priory ruins, a 14th century Monastery Gate, a medieval Clock Tower, stately homes and mansions in the area built across the centuries, a St Albans balloon flight is a veritable feast of historic buildings across the ages.
