BALLOON FLIGHT INFORMATION
Your launch site in Maidstone, Oakwood Park right next to the picturesque Oakwood House will set the scene for your glorious Maidstone ballooning adventure. The House now a hotel and events venue was once a grand Victorian mansion with classical architecture and period features so makes a great starting point as you float up, up and away and get a bird’s eye view of the stately structure before your eye can be further caught by your central Maidstone surrounds!
The town itself, just 32 miles out from London is a large and historically important Kentish town as the River Medway that links the town to Rochester, the Thames Estuary as well as other Kentish towns, runs through it. See if you can spot the meandering river as you take to the skies!
Popular attractions and things to see in and around Maidstone whilst hot air ballooning are the gorgeous natural and man-made landmarks that spot the landscape below you such as parks, rivers, woods, castles and gardens . What you see will depend upon which direction the winds choose to take you on the day, but as Kent is also known as the ‘Garden of England’ you can expect to see a sumptuous buffet of natural beauty, alongside the more modern aspects of the town life itself, plus if you drift far enough afield some of the surrounding castles & historic homes.
To the south-east of Maidstone there is the Bydews Woods, a dark green patch, on the patchwork quilt of the Kent countryside and of course the ever present River Midway on which you might be able to spot one of the daily river cruise boats, runs alongside it. Off to the north-east from your launch site is the Brenchley Gardens, and if your flight is on a Sunday, you might just hear music wafting up to you from it’s free afternoon concerts. Off to the east is the 450 acre Mote Park with its 30 acre lake, hard to miss from your perch in the sky. Last but not least, surrounding the town are grand & once grand structures such as Leeds Castle, Thurnham & Sutton Valence Castle ruins as well as the National Trust owned 15th century yeoman’s house Stoneacre. Even if you flight doesn’t take you over these historic locations, perhaps they will take your fancy for a post-flight visit.
