Make the most of your hot air balloon flight near Royal Tunbridge Wells, by spending some quality time exploring the many attraction the town and its surrounding area has to offer. In Tunbridge Wells itself, you will find the historic Pantiles, which is considered the must see of the town. During Tudor times, any destination that could be reached within a day’s ride of London formed what was know as the Golden Ring – and Tunbridge Wells made the cut!
In 1606 the chance discovery of the Spring, put the town firmly on the radar of the gentry and royalty and became a popular destination for both – hence, we get the name Royal Tunbridge Wells (though the ‘Royal’ bit would take 300 years to get!). The Chalybeate Spring (pronounced ka-lee-bee-at) meaning iron rich – and indeed you can tell this by the taste and the way it dyes everything orange(!) – is worth a visit. If you’re staying the night, then the spring water is supposed to be able to cure hangovers, so that might be worth keeping in mind, as after all, you will want to celebrate your balloon ride in style.
