BALLOON FLIGHT INFORMATION
Head to Shieldhill Castle for a hot air balloon ride over the gorgeous Lanarkshire countryside. As the closest balloon ride to Glasgow, this terrific location just outside of Biggar is just the spot to let the wind take you on a flight of fancy over Scotland. Perhaps you’ll drift towards Biggar with its Biggar Park Garden, ten acre of tranquillity and home to a Japanese Garden, pools and other interesting features. If you continue to drift eastward, perhaps you’ll float over Dawyck Botanic Garden, a verdant oasis that is home to North American trees that tower over 40 metres tall.
Cast your eyes further towards the horizon and the expanse of the Upper Clyde Valley captivates with its undulating hills, lush green pasture and weave of small towns and hamlets. Should the breeze carry you northward, then the views start trending towards Glasgow and Lanark; whilst a southern draw will open up the beauty of the central Clyde Valley. So let a hot air balloon ride over Scotland open up a whole new perspective on one of the world’s most stunning and striking countries, like you’ve never experienced before.
The Upper Clyde Valley boasts a number of natural and manmade attractions to make your ballooning ride over Scotland from here, a fantastic day out. If you head into Biggar, you can visit the interesting Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum and trace the evolution of 14,000 years of local life. The Biggar show is held in July, or maybe your balloon flight will coincide with the Biggar Rally (August), which boasts hundreds of vintage vehicles on display. There is also Scotland’s only permanent puppet museum in town, which is set in a miniature Victorian music hall. Indeed, Biggar is known as Scotland’s ‘Museum Town’.
And having taken in the natural splendour from above, why not consider heading to Dawyck Botanic Garden – 65 acres of escape and home to a five star garden that captivates the eye with its seasonal display of bluebells, azaleas, snowdrops, blue poppies and more. Maybe take some time to relax at the café, and enjoy a bite to eat as you gaze skyward, knowing your ballooning adventure is one you’ll never forget.
