BALLOON FLIGHT INFORMATION
Let a hot air balloon ride over Kirkby Lonsdale open up a world of beauty from a vantage point like no other! Nestled on the fringe on the brooding Yorkshire Dales National Park, let some truly stunning vistas drift into view. To the south lies Bowland Forest, whilst beckoning out the north west calls the mystical allure of the Lake District. Indeed Kirkby Lonsdale offers alternative take on a Lake District balloon flight.
Depending on the will of the wind, any number of dramatic natural landscapes may drift into view, whilst out west the skylines of Morecambe and Lancaster catch the eye with a more human designed flair. This is truly one of the most glorious ballooning locations in the country and certainly one to consider if you are looking to take to the skies over the North West of England.
Once you’ve taken in the magnificent views surrounding Kirkby Lonsdale, (or indeed prior to, if you’re on a romantic evening flight), you’ll discover that the gorgeous little town has so much to offer visitors. Take a stroll down Salt Pie Lane, formally known as Cattle Market Yard, its name changed due to the enterprising spirit of a local lady who sold pies to traders.
Take some time to visit The Vault, home to Kirby Lonsdale’s precious memories and stories safe. Indeed, it is where you can watch seven stories that bring stories of love, tragedy, triumph and local history to life – and once you ‘ve watched and heard those stories, you can explore the town to see where the events took place.
And of course, no visit to Kirkby Lonsdale is complete without a stroll to Devil’s Bridge, an impressive triple arched bridge that dates back to somewhere between the 12thand 13thcentury. Be sure to look for the impression on the apex of the bridge, known as the Devil’s Handprint, who legend has it, built the bridge to outwit an old lady to win her soul, but who was instead outwitted by her! Now considered an ancient monument, it is closed to traffic, making it a delightfully peaceful spot to take in the River Lune – almost as peaceful as the basket of your hot air balloon as you drift majestically overhead.
