Trace the path of the River Lune as it snakes inland in one direction and out through Lancaster to the sea in the other. Indeed the historical city of Lancaster is something to keep an eye out for, with its castle and sprawling university. Cast your gaze further out and you’ll be captivated by rolling scenery that sparks the imagination and romance in equal measure. This is ballooning, Lancashire style!
For a fascinating day before or after your Lancaster hot air balloon ride, head into the city itself. First up should be a visit to The Lune Aqueduct, a 16 metre high section of the canal that dates back to 1797, and what is considered one the ‘Seven Wonders of the Waterways’. Talking of the canal, why not consider a cruise along it, to see the city from two perspectives – from both the water and the air!
Back on dry land, why not consider a visit to the castle, owned by the Duke of Lancaster – also known as Her Majesty the Queen. Or maybe take in the ruins of the Roman Bath and the Wery Wall. Alternatively head to Dalton Square, home of the Edwardian Town Hall, which was officially opened by Lord Ashton in 1909. With so much to see and do in Lancaster, you’ll probably feel like a bite to eat and drink – fortunately there are plentiful options here, at which to toast to your epic adventure ballooning over Lancaster!

The main departure point is the Bull Beck picnic site at Crook O Lune just outside the city of Lancaster. There is also another site nearby in Lancashire that can be used to get you aloft!
You can leave your car at the launch site as this is where your ballooning experience will finish.
Your unforgettable balloon ride will start with a full safety briefing, after which you you can help the team with the the inflating of the balloon if you wish – or kick back, soak up the atmosphere and let others do the hard work. But when it’s time, there is no escaping the collective excitement as the burners fire up and the balloon starts to prepare itself for taking you up, up and away on a ballooning adventure over Lancashire!
As you drift gently over the Lancashire countryside near Lancaster, there will be ample opportunity to take photographs from this unique vantage point. During your flight you are free to discuss how the balloon works with the pilot, who will also be pointing out the many points of interest that drift below you or rest gently on the horizon.

After an unforgettable hour ballooning your pilot will begin your descent towards a gentle landing. Once back on the ground, and should you wish, you can help in packing away the envelope (that’s the official name for the fabric canopy).
