THINGS TO DO NEAR FOXTON LOCKS

The engineering marvel that is Foxton Locks date back to 1810, when Benjamin Bevan was given the job of designing a lock system that would allow boats to traverse the 75 foot rise up the steep escarpment. Four years later in 1814, his feat was accomplished and the locks opened. Discover more about the history of the locks at the Boiler House Museum. Or maybe you’ll watch the activity from your balloon flight and from the lock-side. If that appeals then you might very well be a ‘Gongoozler’ – that’s the name given to someone who enjoys watching the activity of canals in Britain!

A visit to Market Harborough is worth considering. Stroll to the Old Grammar School, which dates back to 1614, to admire its historic charm. For a broader insight into the town’s history, then head over to the Harborough Museum which is housed in the old Symington’s Corset factory. The main departure point is the Cattle Market, Lubenham. There are also other sites nearby in Leicestershire that can be used to get you aloft!

You can leave your car at the launch site as this is where your ballooning experience will finish.
