Launching at the handsome Stanford Hall, the ancestral home of the Cave family that was built in the 1690s, the first thing you will see on your balloon flight is the hall’s grounds with the River Avon flowing though it.
With the wind as your guide, any number of sights might float into view, including Kilworth House, a glorious 19thcentury country abode that is now a hotel and theatre, the Grade I listed Kelmarsh Hall with its lovely parkland and the Naseby battlefields, where on the morning of 14thJune 1645, the confrontation proved a decisive victory for the Parliamentarians and marked the beginning of the end for the Royalists in the First English Civil War. Thankfully your balloon ride over Lutterworth will be a much more serene affair, as the glorious Leicestershire countryside rolls away in all direction to create memories that last a lifetime.
Spend some time exploring Lutterworth before or after your balloon flight! Maybe head to Sharnford to see the 1700s stone monument, ‘High Cross’, with its Latin inscription and marking the geographical centre of Roman Britain. Or why not spend some time at one of the beautiful country houses you saw from your unparalleled vantage point high above.
In Lutterworth itself, head to Gilmorton Road where you’ll find the Lutterworth Museum. This independent museum is staffed and run entirely by volunteers, with the aim to collect and preserve the documents and artefacts that chart the history of Lutterworth and its surrounding network of villages, from earliest times to the present day. You’ll find displays and exhibits that cover everything from military memorabilia to vintage household items to local archaeology to the Lutterworth Railway! It is definitely worth a visit and a great way to enjoy your day of ballooning adventure.
