Surrounded by meadows and low woodlands it is a favourite amongst walkers, cyclists, fishing & sailing enthusiasts as well as bird watchers. This 17th century country home has an eclectic history that is awash with characters, past grandeur, tumultuous disrepair and ultimately a new lease of life as a wonderful destination to while away many an hour. Not only can you unravel its history at the Through the Ages exhibition, you can also visit the Museum of Rural Life which is included in the ticket price. Take a stroll through the relaxing gardens that are the culminative result of 450 years of passion and love.
If your balloon carried you south, then you will have undoubtedly seen Pitsford Water. This verdant nature reserve is the perfect place to discover quiet pathways that pass through mixed habitats and of course the glistening reservoir that is now home to a multitude of birds – over 25 species of duck have been recorded and over 40 varieties of birds are known to nest here in spring and summer. If you’re a fan of nature and having some quiet time, a visit here could be just the tonic. Not too far from Pitsford Water, you’ll find the Northampton & Lamport Railway, a heritage railway that lovingly preserves and operates some vintage steam and diesel locomotives. It could be quite the contrast – experiencing the joy of a balloon flight and a steam train ride – both from another era, but both still capable of setting hearts and imaginations alight!

The main departure point is from Houghton Crossing just north of Northampton. There are also always other sites nearby in many East Midlands counties that can be used to get you aloft though if you need them. Always make sure that you check your voucher details and again when you book in, for the latest launch site details, as they can change depending on weather and site suitability. The good news is, that your voucher is valid for all launch locations in the West Midlands and you can leave your car at the launch site as this is where your ballooning experience will also finish.

The Flight

Landing
