THINGS TO DO IN SHREWSBURY

Shrewsbury is a great location for a balloon flight over Shropshire, as its status as the county town means its full of things to see and do! Consider a visit to Shrewsbury Castle which is home to the Shropshire Regimental Museum and its fantastic collection of pictures, weapons, uniforms and other related memorabilia dating from the 1700s to the present day. Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery contains everything from Roman artefacts to exhibitions by cutting edge artists.

If you cross the road from the Market Hall to the entrance of Morris Hall (look for the pair of black iron gates), where you will discover a large granite boulder set within a compact courtyard. Known as the Bellstone, this remnant of the last Ice Age that is thought to have come down to Shrewsbury from Cumbria during that glacial period, was Charles Darwin’s first introduction to geology. Talking of Darwin, a fantastic statue of him sitting in thought and observance is located outside of the library. At the opposite end of the old town, sitting on the banks of the River Severn, you will find The Quarry park, a 29 acre green escape that contains a lush sunken garden, a bandstand and a play area – a wonderful place for a stroll to absorb the experience you have had ballooning high over Shrewsbury and stunning Shropshire.

There are also always other sites nearby in Shropshire that can be used to get you aloft though if you need them.
