Stroll High Street and Sheep Street and explore the quaint tea room and coffee shop, or locate one of the popular pubs for a tasty lunch. At the top of Telegraph Street you’ll find the town museum, a work of love by some locals that provides an interesting snapshot into Shipston and surrounding villages. There’s artefacts relating to the town’s wool heritage as well the remains of a horse-drawn tramway. A visit to the heritage centre is well worth considering, as here too you’ll find lots of interesting information about the town’s history and it’s place as a stopping point in times gone past, for drovers to herd their flocks to the river to be washed – which is why in Old English, the town was known as Scepwaeisctune – ‘Sheep Wash Town’!
