Admire the striking Grade I listed Palladian House, with its corner tower rooms and along with the Walled Garden, a rare example of such an 18th century garden. As you begin to gain height, it’s hard not to be hypnotised by the M4 motorway and watching the vehicles scurrying along as it wends out into the distance. Should your balloon ride drift northwards you can expect the sprawl of Swindon to be to your east, whilst your flightpath will take you over a patchwork of green fields and small villages. To the northwest lies the enchanting sight of the Cotswold Water Park – over 150 lakes set in 40 acres of Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire countryside. Whereas drifting to the southwest will see you passing over the small historic market town of Royal Wootton Bassett. THINGS TO DO IN SWINDON
Why not make a day of your Swindon balloon ride and take some time to discover the town – it has a lot to offer. Maybe start with a visit to the Swindon Museum & Art Gallery on Bath Road. With a range of changing exhibitions and workshops, there is something for all tastes and they showcase Swindon nicely. Discover more of Swindon’s rail heritage with a visit to the Railway Village and GWR Park. The terraced two-storey cottages were designed by no-one less than Isambard Kingdom Brunel for railway workers; and inside they are still as they appeared back in his day. You’ll also find the Railway Village Museum here and is definitely worth a visit.
You don’t have to be a rail enthusiast to enjoy Steam Museum of the Great Western Railway. Inside you can explore the history of the railway through its collection of over 400,000 objects which include locomotives and rolling stock. In addition to the museum you’ll find a shop and the Platform One Café where you can treat yourself to a hot or cold snack or meal. Or maybe leave the town centre for another time and instead spend a relaxing day at your balloon launch location at Lydiard House and Park. Take a tour of the house and unearth a wealth of history that lives within its walls. Stroll the walled garden, lawns, woodlands and lakeside paths before heading to the tea rooms for well-earned refreshments and the opportunity to reflect on your ballooning adventure flying high over Swindon and Wiltshire.

The main departure point is from the grounds of the gorgeous Lydiard House and Park near Swindon. There are also always other sites nearby in the South West regiond that can be used to get you aloft though if you need them. Always make sure that you check your voucher details and again when you book in, for the latest launch site details, as they can change depending on weather and site suitability. The good news is, that your voucher is valid for all launch locations in the South West and you can leave your car at the launch site as this is where your ballooning experience will also finish.
Your unforgettable balloon ride will start with a full safety briefing, after which you you can help the team with the the inflating of the balloon if you wish – or kick back, soak up the atmosphere and let others do the hard work. The Flight

As you drift gently over the Wiltshire countryside near Swindon, there will be ample opportunity to take photographs from this unique vantage point. During your flight you are free to discuss how the balloon works with the pilot, who will also be pointing out the many points of interest that drift below you or rest gently on the horizon.
No two flights are the same, and as such any number of towns, villages and important landmarks could come into view – all of which create talking points for years to come.
Landing
YOUR SWINDON BALLOON LANDING
After an unforgettable hour ballooning your pilot will begin your descent towards a gentle landing. Once back on the ground, and should you wish, you can help in packing away the envelope (that’s the official name for the fabric canopy).
With the balloon all packed away, you will be transferred back to your launch site where you can sip on the fine stuff and raise a toast to an unforgettable adventure hot air ballooning over Wiltshire.
