If you drift further to the south, you might pass over Manthorpe. There, close to the banks of East Glen River you can spot the Bowthorpe Oak, the largest living oak tree in England. At over 1,000 years old and 40 feet in circumference it is quite the specimen! If your balloon flight heads west, a collage of fields and multiple waterways captivate the eye and ignites the senses. THINGS TO DO NEAR GRIMSTHORPE CASTLE
Grimthorpe Castle makes for a great ballooning day out, with extensive gardens and parkland to explore (trails in the grounds offer over 10 miles of walks to enjoy), as well as the main castle itself. If you venture inside you will be greeted by some incredible and ornate rooms, such as the State Drawing Room adorned with walls full of portraits, The Tapestry Drawing Room with its understated elegance and the cavernous Vanbrugh Hall with its double height ceiling, array of busts and paintings, and imposing fireplace. You could easily spend the day here and find yourself needing more time!
Nearby you will find the historic market town of Bourne. Compliment your timeless balloon travel with a visit to the Delaine Bus Museum, one of the country’s oldest independent bus operators, this museum preserves the history of the company with a range of vintage buses and memorabilia. On South Street you will find both the Red Hall, a listed building of note that dates from 1605 as well as the Bourne Heritage Centre which affords you an insight into the people and industry that have helped shape the town’s identity. Just south of Bourne you can visit the Bowthorpe Oak and nod your approval at its unquestionable stature. Back in Bourne you will find plenty of places to enjoy a delicious meal and at the same time, raise a toast to your unforgettable balloon ride over Grimsthorpe Castle and the lovely Lincolnshire countryside!

The main departure point is from the Grimsthorpe Castle grounds just outside Bourne. There are also always other sites nearby in Lincolnshire that can be used to get you aloft though if you need them. Always make sure that you check your voucher details and again when you book in, for the latest launch site details, as they can change depending on weather and site suitability. The good news is, that your voucher is valid for all launch locations in the East Midlands and you can leave your car at the launch site as this is where your ballooning experience will also finish.
Your unforgettable balloon ride will start with a full safety briefing, after which you you can help the team with the the inflating of the balloon if you wish – or kick back, soak up the atmosphere and let others do the hard work. But when it’s time, there is no escaping the collective excitement as the burners fire up and the balloon starts to prepare itself for taking you up, up and away on a ballooning adventure over Lincolnshire!
The Flight

During your flight you are free to discuss how the balloon works with the pilot, who will also be pointing out the many points of interest that drift below you or rest gently on the horizon.

Landing
